No working key left? This is not a standard job. Without an original, both the key blade and the chip have to be built from scratch. That requires specialist knowledge, professional equipment and more time than a regular key copy.
With a regular key copy there is still a working key present, which makes the process much simpler. With all keys lost that foundation is completely gone. The key blade is decoded from the door lock using specialist tools. If that is not possible via the lock, the lock is disassembled. Programming is the part where the real expertise comes in. Without an existing key in the system, the security code needed to programme a new key must be retrieved from another control unit, such as the instrument cluster, the BCM or the ECU. Sometimes this is possible via the diagnostic port, but often the relevant unit must be removed and the chip read directly. This takes extra time and requires care. Our advice: have a spare key made while you still have one. That prevents this situation entirely.
A valid ID (driving licence, passport or ID card) and the vehicle registration document in your name. For lease or company vehicles we also ask for authorisation from the fleet manager. Without valid identification we will not carry out the work.
That depends strongly on the make and model. For most common European or Asian vehicles we estimate one to two hours.
